Learn about the benefits of High-Performance Surface Seal Treatments
eSeal is a high-performance surface seal engineered to preserve roadway shoulders with sound underlying structures. Its polymer-modified formula creates a thin, durable protective layer that helps defend pavement against moisture, UV exposure, traffic wear and environmental damage.
By slowing the deterioration that can shorten shoulder life, eSeal can extend service life by approximately three to five years and delay the need for more costly repairs. Its formulation can also be customized for different climatic conditions, helping agencies protect their investment while maintaining shoulders that are ready to perform when drivers need them most.
eSeal is Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions’ high-performance surface seal treatment.
Best Practices
- Apply to pavement with a sound underlying structure.
- Repair holes, raveled areas, low areas and rut deformation before application.
- Remove dust, loose material, oil, vegetation and other contaminants from the surface.
- Calibrate the distributor before the project begins and at least once per week during production.
- Complete a test strip to confirm the appropriate spray-bar height, pump settings and ground speed.
- Apply when air and pavement temperatures are at least 55°F and rising.
- Lightly mist pavement with water when surface temperatures exceed 90°F to prevent the treatment from drying too quickly.
- Do not apply when rain or freezing conditions are expected within 24 hours.
- Do not dilute the mixture.
- Apply the first layer at a minimum rate of 0.20 gal./sq. yd.
- Allow the first layer to dry completely before applying the second.
- Apply the second layer at a minimum rate of 0.16 gal./sq. yd.
- Protect the treated surface from traffic until it has sufficiently cured.
